…. part of Tether, a new track of the theme. Bringing back the BOSS DS-1 to give that driven overlay to the 808/909 rhythm mix, and trying out the WhiteFinger Compressor in place of the opto comp in the ART VC. It’s definitely clear that this live rig needs a bus compressor and likely a sonic maximizer that can ‘glisten’ the mix without me needing to pipe this in to the DAW.
Stamping out the beat with the Models 3 and 4P, the machines run sync and drive the TD-6 emulating the 808/909 mixture, and the Blofeld synth backs me up music wise.
The organ sets up with a compressed saws under fine pitch control. Running into a 2×12 Celestion Guitar Combo, and accenting with the wah to bring out the sound and into the mix. But the funnest part about this song is mixing it- live.
For this mix, the music from the Blofeld is bussed through the EH WF Compressor, crushing it slightly with a LP and mid EQ boost. This allows me to play with the depth of the mix in realtime along with the combined effect of the BOSS DS-1. The percussion for this mix is bussed through the 2nd send to the BOSS DS-1 and returned to the mix under a mid range boost and ping-pong tempo synced delay.
I love doing this with the mixer as it lets you make an entirely different drum track, in realtime, using just a distortion pedal and some cheap mixer delay. I no longer sleep on this Behringer X2222 mixer, there’s some game to be had with this one, and I’m strongly considering the x2442. The mix your hearing comes directly from the USB pass thru mains, there’s been no filter or limiting applied.
